Davis Takes One For The Team
Browns LB Andra Davis recently re-worked his contract, but not in the the way most athletes are doing now a days, he took a pay cut of nearly $1.5 Million and gave up two years on his contract to boot. Davis did have a down year last season, and was sat in favor of Leon Williams at times as well this past season. However, Davis spent his summer in Atlanta with Browns RB Jamal Lewis, who has a crazy off-season workout program, and came into camp stronger and 5 lbs bigger too. Davis is a good player, and honestly I [...]
Peek Lost For Rest of Camp
Browns LB Antwan Peek, will most likely be out the rest of the team’s training camp after having arthroscopic knee surgery earlier Thursday. Peek is currently listed as a second teamer, behind Willie McGinest at OLB, but still plays a big part as a pass rushing specialist. Peek was brought in last season to help with the team’s pass rush and contributed 4 sacks, tied for second on the team last season, but missed time last season with an ankle injury. Peek should be ready for the Week 1 showdown with the Dallas Cowboys, but in the meantime look for [...]
Browns Nemisis Too Fat To Play
If any of you been to training camp or seen them play else where in person, then I’m sure you know that Shaun Rogers, Corey Williams, Robaire Smith, and Shaun Smith are all pretty big guys, well you may change your mind in a moment. Seems as though Pittsburgh Steelers D-lineman Casey Hampton, is too fat to participate in the team’s training camp and has been placed on the PUP list, after Hampton failed the team’s annual run test. He won’t be allowed to practice with the team until he sheds the extra pounds either. This cracks me up, and [...]
Crennel On His QB’s
Wednesday Romeo Crennel, had some criticism for both Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn after some lack-luster play on both their parts. On Quinn – “He hasn’t been as smooth as I think he wants to be…I think he’s having fun. Sometimes he tries to make plays down the field when in a different situation he might make a different choice. I know that he works hard. Things are going to smooth out for him and things will be less erratic for him so to speak.” On Anderson – “He’s got things he needs to do to improve also. He’s not [...]
Rogers Making BIG Impact On D-line
Newly added D-lineman Shaun Rogers has been creating a buzz around him thus far in the team’s training camp, and trust me when I saw that the o-line knows he’s here. Hank Fraley, certainly has had his fill of Rogers thus far, and Joe Thomas can’t say enough about him either. Rogers has been able to switch from the Detroit Lions 4-3 ‘D’ to the 3-4 that the Browns run, and on top all of that Rogers has had to switch to Nose Tackle as well, and the team has been moving him around to the ends too, providing even [...]
No News Is Good News
Well in most cases, this is not what most fans want to hear, but when it comes to training camp this is great. There have been no lingering injuries to anyone, knock on wood that this continues, the position battles are only at the 3rd WR spot, and the 4th and 5th CB spots, and no one has held out. So what’s the point your asking yourself, well try and think of the last team to win ANYTHING who went into camp with numerous holdouts and a ton of position battles, you can’t because it has never happened before. Yes [...]
Gary Baxter? Oh Yeah, We’re Still Pulling For Him
Every few weeks or so, it seems that a new article about safety Gary Baxter comes out regarding his incredibly difficult road to recovery from an injury that just about no one else can sympathize with – that is, unless your name just happens to be Wendell Davis. Davis is the only other player in the NFL (Baxter obviously being the second one) to tear both patella tendons on the same play. The even bigger issue is that Davis was never able to make it back on the playing field. Despite rehashing this story again, it is interesting to get [...]
Former Brown Hits Pay-dirt
The Detroit Lions are at it again. For a team that is is such a mess they certainly do know how to hand out some nice contracts, signing former Brown Leigh Bodden to a four year – $27 million extension. Personally I have always thought Bodden to be a good CB, but not a top-tier one, and with his injury history, an average of $6.75 million/season seems a bit lofty to me. This is the guy who is only known for being mentioned by Bengals WR Chad Johnson in a post-game interview, does this ring a bell to anyone???
Winslow Wants to End Career In Cleveland
The big news out of training camp yesterday may have been Kellen Winslow’s wanting of a long-term deal to stay in Cleveland for the rest of his career. Winslow is currently under contract for the next three seasons, but wants to stick around much longer, how many times could we say that about a player in awhile. Now I’m all about signing Winslow, to a 6-7 year deal, then again I am a bit biased when it comes to anything Winslow. However I still think that signing Winslow sends the right message that this team is ready to win and [...]
Training Camp Begins, Meaning More Posts (Promise)
Yesterday marked the beginning of training camp for the Browns, and for many, it is the greatest day of the year (sans the day the Brownies win the Super Bowl). The activity on the site is guaranteed to pick up during the course of the next few months leading into preseason and the glorious start to the NFL schedule. Something I must mention: I am currently working at school and will be extremely busy during the week, but I will be posting as often as possible. That’s not mentioning Chris, who has been doing a great job on DPD since [...]
